Forestry and Regional Forest Management
Students learn a comprehensive range of skills and knowledge necessary
to manage forest areas, including nature conservation and the development
of forestry industries.
Satoyama Woodland Management
In this course students study the ecology, sustainable management and
recovery of Satoyama woodlands which have faced devastation in recent
years. The focus is on the development and utilization of renewable forest
products which foster Satoyama woodlands biodiversity.
Environmental Education and Community Development
Working from a participatory community development model, students study
environmental education with a view to proposing new sustainable regional
resource strategies.
Wooden Architecture
This course teaches wooden architectural construction, design, and materials
including earthquake resistant structural design and measurement. Students
gain an understanding of traditional wood production and construction
and the connection between architecture and the creation of a sustainable
society.
Craft and Furniture Making
Students are taught design and woodworking skills necessary to engage
in craft and furniture making. One of the focuses of the course is how
traditional craft, carpentry skills and thinking can be utilized in contemporary
society.
